Picture this. Your spa or massage practice on Instagram

Trying to maintain a presence on social media for your spa or massage practice can be daunting with so many different channels to consider. Facebook continues to lead the pack with over 2 billion monthly users, reports Statista. However, one of the fastest growing sites is Instagram, the site for sharing photos and videos.  Last September, Instagram announced it has 800 million monthly users, up 100 million just since that April.

With growth like that, it’s hard to ignore this social site and suggests if you don’t already have a presence on Instagram, it may be something to consider. You may already have many clients and prospects currently active on Instagram.  Also statistics indicate just how valuable visual content can be to your marketing efforts.  Here are a few statistics from HubSpot gleaned from the Internet about the power of visual content:

  • 37% of marketers said visual marketing was the most important form of content for their business, second only to blogging (38%).
  • When people hear information, they're likely to remember only 10% of that information three days later. However, if a relevant image is paired with that same information, people retained 65% of the information three days later.
  • 4X as many consumers would prefer to watch a video about a product than to read about it

Showcase services and promotions

Make the most of your presence on Instagram with photos and videos that showcase your massage or skin treatments. You’ll also want to use Instagram to highlight special promotions tied to the various holidays as well as your involvement in community activities. If you offer free massage for sponsored runs or walks, add some photos or a video of the event.

You also can use the channel to post endorsements from clients. And don’t forget about introducing your staff to your followers and including photos of your spa or massage practice. Post photos of the various rooms of your business , making sure to include your retail section,   or create a short video to take followers on a virtual tour.

Make the most of the network

Some other things to keep in mind to make sure your effort in Instagram is successful in attracting and engaging with followers:

Have a consistent style

Instagram filters enable you to create a desired look in the photos and videos you post. Think about what you are trying to convey visually and maintain a consistent look that supports your spa or massage practice brand.

Maintain a focus

Your overall goal should be to feature what your spa or massage practice has to offer. It’s fine to include photos of trade shows or seminars you attend to let followers know that you keep up with industry trends. But don’t use your page to share pictures of yourself while on vacation or having an evening out with friends unless it’s tied to your business or the industry in some way.

Have a plan

Before you start posting, have a plan about what you intend to post and what posts will look like.

Monitor what is successful

In a short time, you’ll be able to see what attracts the most likes. Post more of those images to keep followers engaged.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words. Let Instagram tell your story to keep new clients coming through your door and current clients asking for more services.
