Answer the call of the Sea with Thalassotherapy

“And it is an interesting biological fact that all of us have, in our veins, the same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea, we are going back from whence we came.”  –John F. Kennedy   I think this pretty much sums up our connection with the sea, so why not celebrate its gifts and bring awareness about its future while promoting Clean Beaches Week.

The sea offers us so many benefits for the mind, body, and soul.  Why not celebrate July by offering a mid-summer break to your clients.  Although it may be difficult to duplicate the sun, suds, and sand experience, Thalassotherapy allows us to deliver on the promise of its therapy. Thalassotherapy is a therapeutic use of seawater and marine products like algae, seaweed, and mud. There are so many ways to integrate these elements into the treatment room.  25 years ago, I was mixing them up in my kitchen from components like sea salt, seaweed, and clays purchased from the health food store.   Thank goodness we now have more convenient choices. For example, Biotone has Exfoli Sea Salt Glow; Firmi-Sea Body Mud; Marine Therapy Pedi Scrub, and Marine Therapy Pedi Balm (no cooking necessary)

Special Promotion Menu:   A visit to the beach always leaves you feeling alive and cleansed – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Wouldn’t it be great for your clients to feel that way?  I have searched thru Biotone’s website for some great protocol suggestions for you to try: These would make perfect additions to your summer menu:

Citrus Summer Squeeze

Citrus Summer Wrap

Dare to be bare

Deep-Sea Detoxify Me

Firm and Fabulous

Island Paradise Pedi

Retail Promo Special:  It’s not surprising that July is also UV safety Month.  What a great opportunity to offer a special on sunscreens like Biotone’s Better Bright SPF 50.  Also, consider the Marine Therapy Pedi Balm, one of my favorites in the treatment room and at home.

Lagniappe (complimentary): I’ve already admitted that Pedi Balm is one of my favorites. It’s my go-to for the footwork during the summer since it absorbs into a non-slippery powdery finish.  It’s perfect for people putting their feet back into sandals. Why not offer a little exfoliation for those feet first.  It only takes a little of the Marine Therapy Pedi-Scrub and a couple of warm wet hand towels. They will love you for it.

Wellness Education:  With every drop of water you drink, every breath you take, you’re connected to the sea. No matter where on Earth you live.” – Sylvia Earle

We must honor the many gifts we receive from the ocean by doing what we can to protect it—so many of our clients' vacation is at the beach.  Let’s use this as an opportunity to remind and educate them on how to enjoy these gifts honorably and the importance of reducing our impact on the beaches.

Clean Beach Week was started by the Clean Beaches Coalition and is held every year from July 1st-July 7th. Clean Beach Week is the “Earth Day” for beaches. The week is designed to promote a healthy beach lifestyle and bring awareness to the problems associated with dirty and ill-maintained beaches.

Be well, Do good work, and take the time to walk barefoot in the sand.
