Supporting “No Shave November”

Most of you probably know about this worthwhile challenge taken on by some of our male clients. It is designed to raise awareness and money for cancer research and prevention.  People commit to donating the money that they would typically spend on shaving and grooming to various charities.  This year I’ve decided to honor my clients' participation by offering gratis beard treatment upgrades for their massage sessions during November.  I’m hoping some of you will consider joining me.

You can keep it as simple as you need to or as luxurious and complex as your imagination will allow.  Here are a few of my offerings, considering the typical challenges of growing and maintaining a beard.  I call it the “Beard Ritual.”

Beard Exfoliation

Make sure to use a product designed for the face, such as Biotone’s Facial Therapy Micro Refiner or a cleanser.  Massage into the beard area using your fingertips. (I plan to use a shampoo brush (@.99) and give it to the client for home care)  Top with a hot towel and work it in circles.  If need be, repeat with a second towel.

Hot Oil Massage

You can use purchased beard oil or try one of the recipes below.  Rub a little warmed beard oil into your palms and distribute evenly throughout the beard from root to tip.  Slide your hands beneath the chin, across the cheeks, interlocking your fingers at the midline.  Always massage hair down and away from the face, then back up and flattened into its natural direction. (You can use the shampoo brush again).  Top with one or two hot towels and leave them on for at least 5 minutes.  You can go ahead and start massaging their neck and shoulders during this time.  For a more luxurious treatment, a scalp treatment can be added.

Finish

Covering their eyes, you can offer an overhead spray - a combination of distilled water, aloe, and a couple of drops of Lavender.

Beard Oil Recipes:  These all start with 1 oz. of carriers such as Jojoba or a combo of Argan and Jojoba and utilize quality essential oils like Biotone’s
