cbd-well-being-and-happiness

Remember when “an apple a day kept the doctor away.” Times have changed. With the trend for self-care on the rise, many consumers are turning to cannabidiol (CBD) for wellness. Research indicates that CBD is becoming an important tool to seek relief, relaxation and overall wellbeing. Some 36 percent of stressed-out millennials are using CBD five times or more per week, with 63 percent using CBD at least once a week.[1]

Increasingly self-care tips feature CBD as part of a daily wellness routine not only to address bouts of back pain and even eczema, but also to reduce chronic anxiety and sleep issues. Since CBD from hemp contains less than 0.3 percent THC, there is no cause for concern about getting high or acquiring an addiction to this naturally-occurring compound.

Reach for CBD to help calm nerves

Nearly 40 million people in the United States (18 percent) experience an anxiety disorder in any given year.[2]  Among many, the use of CBD for anxiety is growing. A recent survey found that among those that use CBD, about 55 percent of those who have tried it say they used it to relax, and another 50 percent said they were looking for stress and anxiety relief.[3] Research suggests that in addition to impacting the endocannabinoid system, which regulates such processes as mood, appetite, memory, and more for optimal functioning; CBD may control the release of serotonin. Serotonin is the chemical that has a wide variety of functions in the body and contributes to wellbeing and happiness.

While more research is needed on CBD and anxiety, a 2011 study found that CBD was able to reduce Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD). This preliminary study aimed to compare the effects of a simulation public speaking test (SPST) on healthy control patients and treatment-naïve SAD patients who received a single dose of CBD or placebo. Pretreatment with CBD significantly reduced anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort in the speech performance of control patients, and significantly decreased alert levels in their anticipatory speech. The placebo group presented higher anxiety, cognitive impairment, discomfort, and alert levels when compared with the control group.[4]

Try CBD to help end insomnia

For many Americans a good night’s sleep is “something to only dream about.” A study from a few years ago found that more than one third of American adults are not getting the recommended seven hours of sleep each night. [5]  Lack of sleep can lead to a number of chronic health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke and even mental distress. And it’s not only that Americans aren’t getting enough sleep; they aren’t getting enough quality sleep. When you wake up feeling exhausted the next day, it impacts your mood and ability to think clearly.

Some research on CBD and sleep indicates that CBD may interact with specific receptors in the endocannabinoid system to potentially affect the sleep/wake cycle.  Furthermore, by reducing the symptoms of pain and anxiety, CBD may also contribute to a more restful sleep.[6]

Lab+Blends Dream Drops Nighttime Sleep Aid, was formulated to be taken before bedtime each night to help ease problems related to falling and staying asleep. In addition to CBD, the non-habit-forming sleep aid features Melatonin, the hormone that regulates sleep cycles, and Vitamin B6.

Add more CBD to your day and week

As part of a CBD health and wellness regimen, you’ll also want to consider other ways to incorporate CBD. If you are holding back on daily physical exercise – running, jogging, bike riding, tennis and more -- because of joint or muscle pain, there are CBD topical creams that can help ease the pain.  Also, a CBD massage can enhance the benefits of a therapeutic massage.

Lab+Blends has topical CBD products to ease joint and muscle pain. You also can recommend our professional CBD Massage Oil and Massage Cream to your massage therapist.

CBD is playing a leading role in the new era of self-care. If you have more questions about how Lab+Blends CBD can help your wellness regime, get in touch.
