Look to Aloe Vera For Skin Healing and Hydrating

If there’s one plant whose therapeutic benefits have stood the test of time, it’s Aloe Vera. Egyptian stone carvings depicting the Aloe Vera plant have been found dating back 6,000 years. The ancient Egyptians actually called Aloe Vera “the plant of immortality” because of its exceptional healing properties.

Aloe Vera may not provide immortality but the clear gel found in the lower part of its leaves has healing and moisturizing benefits for dry skin, skin irritations, minor skin infections, wounds and burns. With its anti-inflammatory properties, Aloe Vera is the natural go-to remedy for sunburn, so much so that it’s sometimes called the “burn plant,” says Healthline.

In addition to its widespread use as a treatment for sunburn, Aloe Vera also is used in a range of skin care products because it contains several antioxidants, including beta carotene and vitamins C and E, to help improve the skin’s firmness and keep it hydrated. Because of its hydrating properties, Aloe Vera helps to minimize the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
